Canton, TX 01/20/2010

Conditions were favorable for severe storms today. I headed east out of the DFW metroplex. My first stop was just east of Mesquite, TX on Highway 80 to observe an unusual hook feature on radar that was curved around to the NW of a NE moving storm. A little video was captured and this still was taken of this feature which was nothing more than a scud.

I continued eastward on 80 eventually merging with and continuing on eastbound I-20.
A few miles before reaching Canton, TX I shot this pic of a cell that had moved north of the area.

Tornado warnings were issued for Canton as I approached.
I took these following pics of the cell that produced the tornado in Canton.

This last picture was taken as I exited I-20 to north 859 as the traffic
on the interstate had come to a halt due to wires down and other debris on the roadway.

I continued north to the town of Edgewood then east on US 80 to Mineola. I decided to break off the chase and return to Dallas as darkness and rain made for very poor visibility. News reports made mention of other possible tornado damage in the towns of Grand Saline and Mineola but I did not see any during my travels.

Total Miles Driven = 173
